Podcast host and comedian Joe Rogan — who dismissed Covid-19 vaccines earlier this year — tested positive for the coronavirus and is treating his infection with ivermectin, he said Wednesday, backing an unapproved drug health officials have urged Covid-19 patients not to take.
In an Instagram video Wednesday, Rogan said he tested positive for Covid-19 after dealing with a fever over the weekend and “immediately threw the kitchen sink at it,” listing off ivermectin, monoclonal antibodies and several other medications.
The Food and Drug Administration warned Americans last month not to take ivermectin — an antiparasitic drug often used in animals — for Covid-19, the National Institutes of Health says there’s “insufficient evidence” to recommend ivermectin and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has cautioned patients against taking it on their own.
Rogan said his symptoms improved earlier this week and he now feels fine, a recovery he attributed to “modern medicine,” but he postponed a comedy show set for Friday.
The podcaster didn’t specify whether he’s vaccinated against Covid-19.
Spotify, which distributes Rogan’s podcast, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
